Below are my compiled notes on the progress made so far on this project. They include browser compatibility issues, bug fixes, project direction changes, as well as content and design changes.

Browser Compatibility Notes

• Netscape Navigator 2.x
• Experienced a minor issue when applying the navy background to the sidebar. Background colors on individual table cells don't appear to render on Netscape 2. Not a big issue, but worth noting.
• "What's New" animated gif transparent background did not render properly. Displayed with a red background instead of a clear one. Renders fine in subsequent versions of Netscape.
• Netscape Navigator 3.x/4.x
• Pages appear to be rendering properly. Animated GIFs loop correctly, transparency renders correctly.
• Internet Explorer 2.x
• Browser crashed repeatedly when multiple GIFs added to the home page. Appears to be a limitation of this version of IE.
• Dropping this version as a compatibility target for this project.
• Internet Explorer 3.x
• Recurring error: "Unable to load image due to system memory" on pages with multiple GIFs. Likely an issue with IE 3 running in Tiger's Classic Environment. Needs further testing on real hardware to confirm.
• Setting IE 3 as the new minimum version for IE compatibility.
• Internet Explorer 4.x
• Page renders well overall. Animated GIFs render, but do not loop properly. Could be an issue with IE on Mac. Will need to test with IE 4.x on Windows.

Site Changes

• Corrected various syntax errors.
• Fixed character encoding issue.
• BBEdit Lite on OS 9 enabled a feature called "Smart Quotes" as part of "Mac Roman". This caused an apostrophe on the original site to render properly on my iBook during testing, but as a question mark block on other machines not using Mac Roman.
• Added What's New? page you are reading now to cover changes and eventually news/announcements.
• Added Journal page as an era-appropriate "net journal" or "net diary" alternative to a blog.
• Adjusted table width from 100% to 800px to render the page properly on both modern and vintage machines.
• Just starting the process of adding additional pages to the sidebar including:
• Recent News as a sort of archive for older news updates.
• MARCHintosh 2026 and BSD Week 2026 for updates relating to those two themed events.
• Change Logs as an archive page for older change logs.
• Formatting is incomplete. New pages need to be built out.
